Oil paint has a special place at Old Holland. It is the first product manufactured by us. Since the early days of oil, artists have made high demands on the durability of their work. To meet these requirements, Old Holland still produces their classic oil paints according to traditional formulas (durability tested over the years), complemented by the latest technological developments. The choice of pigments is a unique mix of the best traditional colors and the best pigments derived from the latest technological developments.
In 1985, after extensive research, Old Holland introduced a revolutionary range of 168 oil paints, each with the highest degree of lightfastness. Traditional non-light fast pigments have been replaced with modern light fast pigments with the same characteristics as the traditional color. Thanks to the highest possible concentration of pigments in each color, the color has unparalleled color strength. Within the unique range of 168 colors there are a variety of opaque and transparent colors, each with the highest possible shine (intense) and brightness. The only media we use for our oil paints is cold pressed extra virgin oil to achieve the best possible oxidation (drying) of the paint. This increases durability and brushstroke spread.
Together these characters create an oil paint of unique quality.
Each tube of Old Holland Oil Paint has a color stripe across the label, created from the tube in question. We believe this is the only honest way to show the color in the tube.
Old Holland is one of the only companies that still uses this method.
