Stretched canvases
At Peters Art we offer both machine-stretched and hand-stretched canvases.
The machine-stretched canvases we have in various formats and usually also in larger quantities in stock for you. If we do not have the desired sizes in stock, we can have them re-produced in our partner workshop at short notice. Please feel free to contact us for such inquiries via email at info@peters-art.de.
The hand-covered canvases are individually produced for you in our in-house workshop.
Hand-stretched canvases
For the hand-stretched canvases you can choose from the following fabrics. Of course, we are happy to support you with your ideas and projects:
- Cotton, linen or jute,
- coarse, medium fine or fine,
- unprimed or primed.
You decide for yourself which profile you need for your canvas and which fabric you would like it covered with. We glue and prime the screens at any time for you on request.
The sizing takes place in our own workshop with liquid rabbit-skin glue, on request also with Plextol.
To glue your canvases, we heat the hare glue and apply it to the fabric. The hare glue acts as a natural collagen and gives the tissue on your canvas the desired tension.
We apply the white primer of your canvases to you in 3 different versions with finished products such as those from Lascaux:
- Gesso Universal (strongly absorbent),
- Primer (weakly absorbent), works well for oil painting,
The foundation is applied to the fabric in several thin layers, usually 2-3 times. We recommend our customers first and foremost Gesso Universal, because we have the best experience with it.
Staple and attach with Rapid tackers and staples
For our hand-stretched canvases, we use the hand and compressed air tackers as well as the staples from the Swedish brand Rapid.
Especially the Rapid tackers and staples are perfect for attaching the different fabrics for your canvases or already finished works on our wooden frames. The interaction between the staple gun and the staples causes the fabrics to sit very tightly and thus tend to lose its shape less.
For your own projects we offer you in our online shop three different models of Rapid staplers, which are not only robust, but are tailored to the needs of professionals and DIY projects alike.
Machine-stretched canvases
For those who are looking for a cheap alternative for your artwork, we would like to introduce our machine-stretched canvases in different sizes and shapes.
Our machine-stretched canvases are already stretched frames, which we implement with our partner workshop in Poland.
We offer two different options tailored to your needs, Basso and Corte.
Basso
Basso is a machine-strung stretcher in the depths of 1.6 cm for medium formats (with a frame size of up to 80 x 100 cm) and 2 cm for larger formats. We have the experience that the machine-stretched canvases can only be produced in such a stable way in the long run.
We cover the basso canvases with a medium-fine and pre-primed cotton.
Basso are ideal for beginners, but also professionals who want to do the first sketches or try out colors. Good quality at a low price is our claim with the basso frames.
Corte
We offer our machine-stretched Corte brand canvases at two different depths, 'Corte' with a depth of 2 cm and 'Corte 3D' with a depth of 3.3 cm.
The machine-stretched canvases Corte are produced for small formats with a width of 3 cm and for larger formats of 4.5 cm width. Please note that we manufacture a maximum size of 200 x 200 cm from the Corte frames.
The Corte 3D machine-stretched canvases are 3.3 inches deep but only 2.2 inches wide. That makes the canvas construction not that heavy.
We cover both Corte formats with a linen-look medium-fine cotton, i.e. the fabric is dyed like linen. In a few sizes, we also offer medium-fine linen covered Corte frames.
Our machine-stretched Corte frames have a denser fabric quality and are therefore particularly suitable for professionals.
